ANOTHER LIFE SAVED BY BRS AIRCRAFT PARACHUTE
ANOTHER LIFE SAVED BY BRS AIRCRAFT PARACHUTESouth St. Paul, MN, April 24th, 2009— Ballistic Recovery Systems, Inc., a manufacturer of whole-aircraft emergency parachute systems, announced today that it was notified of an aircraft accident near Tacoma, Washington this past Monday, April 20th where its uniquely designed, whole-aircraft parachute recovery system was deployed in midair and saved the life of the aircraft’s pilot. This constitutes save #229 for a BRS parachute.
The Challenger II, a Light Sport Aircraft (LSA), was flying normal cruise speed at 2,000 ft altitude when the pilot suddenly lost elevator control. Not willing to risk landing under such conditions, he elected to deploy his onboard BRS parachute system while descending through 1,800 feet. Working as designed, the parachute brought both aircraft and occupant to earth safely, touching down in the front yard of an Auburn, Washington residence. The pilot sustained only minor bruising and walked away while the Challenger sustained damage just to its landing gear.
Pilot Jared Stevenson, age 35, of Kent, Washington, said, “If the parachute wasn’t on there, I absolutely would not be here. There was no way to ultimately get the aircraft down. I just didn’t have the flight controls to do it.” He added, “This is a perfect example of why people need extra safety equipment, such as aircraft parachutes, when they fly.”

A Challenger II LSA similar to the one piloted by Jared Stevenson | “As with all of our documented saves, I am extremely proud of our BRS team which designs and manufactures such positive life-impacting products,“said BRS CEO and President, Larry Williams. “It’s always nice to hear from pilots who believe so whole heartedly in the concept and application of parachutes for airplanes. This is exactly how we measure success...one life saved at a time,” he added.
